Guided Lovingkindness Meditation

Join world-renowned meditation teacher Sharon Salzberg for a virtual interactive workshop as part of the Contemplation by Design Summit. This Summit is a campus-wide, multidisciplinary series of free events, hosted by Stanford Medicine from October 23-November 3, 2024. Sharon is offering three different programs as part of this Summit - Compassion and Joy: Practicing the Dharma in Times of Uncertainty on October 31st, this Lovingkindness Meditation event, and an interactive workshop, Seeds of Compassion on November 1st.

Metta is the Pali word for friendship or lovingkindness. It is taught as a meditation that cultivates our natural capacity for an open and loving heart. With its roots in practices said to be taught by the Buddha himself, metta is traditionally offered along with meditations that enrich compassion, joy in the happiness of others and equanimity. Lovingkindness practice lead to the development of concentration, fearlessness, happiness and a greater ability to love.
